Sunset Magazine: Portrait Covers
In this post, I feature Sunset Magazine’s that have covers with portraits. Around the 1930’s, Sunset Magazine started featuring mostly houses, home design and landscaping on the covers, but prior to this it was much more artistic.
I suspect portrait art was featured on the magazine covers to help humanize and romanticize the idea of the American West for readers. The original goal of the magazine was to attract people westward. After all, it was owned by the Southern Pacific Railroad.
