Artist Feature: The Heath Anderson Covers of Sunset Magazine

If you collect old Sunset Magazines, you know that in the 1930s, there were quite a few covers with some quirky almost cartoon-like characters depicting life in the West. In my opinion, these are some of the best classic Sunset covers since they are much more vibrant and whimsical than other covers around that time. Below is a gallery of my collection of various Heath Anderson covers. I have almost all of the Heath Anderson covers from 1932 and 1933. In addition to these covers, you’ll see Anderson pop up here and there on other 30s Sunset Covers, many of which I’ve seen depict colorful flowers.

I’ve tried doing some research on Heath Anderson and the information available on the internet is very limited. Here is a very brief background from askART.com:

Born in San Francisco, California, Heath Anderson was a painter and illustrator who remained active in San Francisco until the early 1940s. She was a member of the San Francisco Women Artists and the All Arts Club of Berkeley. She studied at the California College of Arts and Crafts.
